Today’s the last post for Black History Month, and I’m highlighting the song “We Shall Overcome”.
My original goal was to list songs that capture the struggles of black people in America, in a peaceful effort to get us to all come together as human beings.
But, then I found this post on You Tube while going through my list of songs (shared below the video), and felt like it deserves it’s own post.
The video I’ve linked goes through the history of the song, and it’s many iterations. At the end of the video, it’s creator, Genie Deez, wonders if more versions will need to be made.
I for one hope not. We’ve got to do better and there’s no better time to start than now.
Some of the song’s on my list (please check them out):
Billie Holiday – Strange Fruit
Marvin Gaye – Inner City Blues
Stevie Wonder – Living for the City
Thank you for reading my post. Your feedback is appreciated.
