The Impact One Song Can Have

“I Know Victoria’s Secret” by Jax

The whole reason I’m doing this blog is to highlight the power that using art to peacefully bring awareness to issues has. This song is such a great example of the relatability and impact of using art to stand up for something you believe in.

Jax, who is American Idol alum, and Tik Tok star Jaclyn Cole Miskanic, wrote this song in an effort to bring awareness of the corporate, profit making efforts behind the women’s fashion industry and the unrealistic standards that they set for women’s beauty.

She shared this story, about a young girl she was babysitting, with her Tik Tok followers (YouTube link provided: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIy_6bFECZw )

Yesterday, I picked her up from the mall, because she was going to her first boy-girl pool party. Her and her friends went bikini shopping at Victoria’s Secret. She literally got in the car, hysterically crying to me, because this one little brat said something to her that made me cringe. So, I wrote a song for her, because when I was her age, I had a lot of eating problems, and I wish someone would have said these things to me.

The lyrics call out Victoria’s Secret CEO at that time, Leslie Wexner:

“I know Victoria’s secret, and girl you wouldn’t believe. She’s an old man who lives in Ohio, making money off of girls like me. Cashing in on body issues. Selling skin and bones with big boobs”.

In an August 25, 2022, Entrepreneur Magazine article, Victoria Secret’s new CEO, Amy Hauk responded by posting a letter on Victoria Secret’s Instagram account:

This is such a great example of art being used to share a very intense subject in a relatable way, which helped it be received and taken to heart.
