I originally started this project as a Toastmaster’s assignment, and really enjoyed creating the posts every week. I took a break from Toastmasters and ultimately a break from posting, but am ready to get back into both, although this site is no longer being used as an assignment.
It’s been over a year since I’ve updated it but I am feeling like it’s time to revive the blog. I’m a huge believer in turning to the arts when you want to know what’s happening in a society. One of the best ways to understand the the culture of the time is to turn to the arts, whether that be novels, movies, music, tv shows, etc. It’s easier to present an idea as fiction since there is no burden of having to be 100% factual. Parodies, caricatures, satire, etc. exist because you can present what you believe the true story to be, but add in some humor or other artistic elements and call it fiction.
Looking back in history there are multiple examples of political messaging included in artistic endeavors. Some obvious, and some hidden pretty well.
I’m back to sharing examples of peaceful protest through art and also want to encourage more art to be created. It’s a myth that you need talent to create art. Anyone who has a vision based on their feelings can be an artist. Compare Jackson Pollock to Leonardo DaVinci. While their styles are vastly different from each other, they are both still artists and have a message to spread.
As this site continues to grow, I would like to encourage artists to share their works with me so I can include them in these posts. I also welcome polite discussion and conversation about the content.
Thank you for being here!
