yəhaw̓ (pronounced “yee-howt)is a Lushootseed (Puget Sound Salish/Skagit-Nisqually)word that means “to proceed” or “move forward”.

The yehaw Indigenous Creatives Collective is a creative movement that incorporates art into their mission to “improve Indigenous mental and emotional health outcomes through art-making, community building, and equitable creative opportunities for personal and professional growth”.

This movement uses indigenous art to tell their stories with the intention of bringing people together.

In the article “Together We Lift The Sky: yehaw and Black-Indigenous Artists Advance Social Justice” the joint efforts of the indigenous people’s communities and Black Lives Matter movement to use art to advance their shared messages of solidarity in their collective efforts to overcome oppression.

It’s truly an impressive collaboration to bring attention to the struggles that indigenous and black people face.
